His father, Steve Soderstrom, was a professional baseball pitcher who was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 1993 MLB Draft.
Growing up with a father who understood the demands of professional baseball gave Tyler an early opportunity to learn about the sport and develop his skills.
His family has also been involved in farming for generations, operating a turkey and almond farming business in California.
This background exposed him to a lifestyle that combined athletic development with family responsibilities. His brother, Tate, also pursued baseball and played collegiate baseball for the University of Arizona.
Tyler attended Turlock High School in his hometown, where he quickly established himself as one of the leading young baseball prospects in the country. His performances earned him a place on the United States under-18 national team, which competed at the 2019 Baseball World Cup in South Korea.
The team won a silver medal, and Soderstrom received All-Star recognition for his performance as a designated hitter.
In 2020, he was named the Gatorade California Baseball Player of the Year in recognition of his outstanding high school season.
Although he committed to play college baseball at the University of California, Los Angeles, he decided to enter professional baseball instead after the Oakland Athletics selected him in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft. His decision marked the beginning of his professional career before he could begin his university studies.

Career
Tyler Soderstrom began his professional baseball career after the Oakland Athletics selected him with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft.
He signed with the organization for a reported $3.3 million signing bonus, choosing professional baseball over his college commitment to UCLA.
Following his selection, Tyler entered the Athletics’ minor league system, where he worked to develop his hitting, catching, and defensive abilities.
His performances across the minor leagues demonstrated his potential as a power hitter, helping him progress through the organization’s development system.
On July 14, 2023, Tyler made his Major League Baseball debut with the Athletics. His initial major league appearances gave him experience against established professional pitchers as he adjusted to the demands of the highest level of the sport.
He continued working to establish himself during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, splitting time between the major leagues and Triple-A.
His career reached a significant turning point in 2025, when he emerged as one of the Athletics’ leading hitters. His combination of power and consistent offensive production made him an important part of the team’s lineup.
In December 2025, the Athletics rewarded his development with a reported seven-year contract extension worth $86 million. The agreement demonstrated the organization’s confidence in his future and secured his place in its long-term plans.
During the 2026 season, Tyler continued contributing as a first baseman and left fielder. Before his season ended, he recorded 97 hits, 27 doubles, 19 home runs, and 56 runs batted in across 109 games, according to the supplied season statistics.
However, his campaign was cut short in August 2026 after he suffered a left hip impingement that required season-ending surgery.
The injury interrupted a productive season, leaving his recovery and return to competitive baseball as important considerations for his future.
At 24, he remains a significant part of the Athletics’ long-term plans because of his hitting ability and potential for further development.
