In a shocking incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunday Okoebor lost his life when suspected armed robbers, posing as EFCC operatives, invaded his residence in Asaba, the Delta State capital. The tragic event occurred in the early hours of November 28, 2023, when the armed robbers discovered Okoebor‘s identity as a police officer.

Contrary to rumors circulating on social media, the Delta State Police Command clarified that its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) was not a victim of the attack. The command urged the public to disregard the false information.

In an official statement, the Command’s PPRO, Mr. Bright Edafe, stated, “The Command wishes to state that, on 28/11/2023 at about 3:30 am, one DSP Sunday Okoebor attached to the Command X-Squad was shot dead at his apartment. The late officer was shot dead by suspected armed robbers who broke into his apartment in the guise of being EFCC Operatives, and on noticing he was a Police officer, he was shot in the head.”

Taking swift action, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, mobilized tactical teams to pursue the suspects. By 06:30 hours on the same day, the joint security outfit known as Operation Delta Hawk apprehended eight suspects who confessed to the crime and the murder of DSP Okoebor.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the late officer’s family and assured them of justice. The public was cautioned against spreading misinformation and encouraged to seek clarification from the police command before sharing details with the media.
