Michael Opeyemi Bamidele began his career as a student activist at Obafemi Awolowo University, where he served as the Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Union and later became the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in 1986.
During the military regimes of Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha, he was at the forefront of pro-democracy campaigns, which led to multiple arrests, detention without trial, and exile from Nigeria. His activism earned him a reputation as a fearless human rights lawyer.
