Onyebuchi Franklin Odurukwe (born June 9, 1994) is a Nigerian movie star known professionally as Bucci Franklin. He is a Nollywood actor, model, TV personality, and OAP. 

He has appeared in many successful film projects ranging from feature-length and short films to drama series. He played a lead role in the award-winning movie, Rattlesnake.

Bucci Franklin also played Government in the Netflix Original TV series Far From Home.

Early Life

Bucci Franklin was born on the 9th of June, 1994, to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Odurukwe. He was birthed in the city of Port Harcourt. His parents registered his birth with the name Onyebuchi Franklin Odurukwe. Franklin is Bucci’s English name. 

He spent his formative years living in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Although born and bred in the South-South geopolitical zone, he is originally from the Southeast region. Bucci Franklin is an Igbo man who hails from Imo State. He traces his ancestry to the Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State. 

Bucci Franklin has a middle-class upbringing and was raised by Civil Servants parents in the heart of Port Harcourt. He developed an interest in the media industry from a young age and aspired to be a TV personality. 

Education

Bucci Franklin underwent his elementary and secondary education in Port Harcourt City. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate from Bereton Primary School. He studied at Covenant Secondary School, earning good grades in his O’Levels. 

After graduating high school, Bucci Franklin was admitted to the University Of Abuja. He bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from the institution. 

Career

Bucci Franklin‘s acting journey began during his undergraduate days at the University Of Abuja. He participated in many stage plays and musicals produced on campus, and this helped him become famous as a student. 

After graduating from the university, he began his career in the media industry and secured employment as a presenter with Multi-Mesh Broadcasting Company. He worked as an OAP at Love FM 104.5 Abuja. He hosted the popular TV show Rising Stars, which aired on NTA. Bucci Franklin also hosted a show aired on African Independent Television (AIT). During this period, he appeared in stage productions in Abuja and a few short films shot in Lagos and Abuja.

Bucci Franklin worked in the media space for some years before joining the Nollywood industry full-time. His breakout role came in the 2018 film Knockout Blessing. Since then, he has appeared in many feature-length films, short films, drama series, and web series. He gained international acclaim for his performance in the 2020 film Rattlesnake. The Nollywood blockbuster was directed by Ramsey Nouah and produced by Charles Okpaleke and Chris Odeh.

In 2022, Bucci Franklin was cast to play the role of Government in the Netflix Drama Original Series Far From Home. His success in the film helped him gain more fame in the international filmmaking community. 

Bucci Franklin‘s acting prowess has been recognized with many laurels. He won the Best Actor, Theatre Arts at the University Of Abuja in 2007. In 2015, he earned nominations for the Best Lead Actor and Best Upcoming Actor categories at the Annual African Film and Music Awards Festival.
