Early Life & Education

Christian Wilson was born in Portland, Oregon, on January 30, 1947. He was born to Eric Wilson and Kristie Young Wilson. After retiring from the Navy and the State of Oregon, he entered the entertainment industry with a modest role in the TV series Grimm. He has three siblings: Matt Wilson, Chance Wilson and Cayden Wilson.

He serves as the Chapels Royal Organist in HM Tower of London, Assistant Organist at Christ Church in Oxford, and Director of Music at Brasenose College. He was formerly the lead chorister at Westminster Abbey. Afterward, he served as the Sub-Organist at Perth Cathedral in Western Australia before accepting the Organ Scholarship at Christ Church Oxford. 

Christian Wilson stayed in Oxford to pursue his Ph.D. studies, researching the musical styles and theatrical conventions related to the Lady Mass in late-medieval England. A second master’s degree in solo organ/harpsichord performance from the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart launched Christian’s independent playing career as an organist and conductor, which took him to countless locations on five continents.

Christian Wilson‘s musical journey began in Westminster Abbey, where he served as Head Chorister and developed an appreciation for the organ’s ethereal tone and symphonic hue. Before accepting the Organ Scholarship at Christ Church in Oxford, he worked a year as a sub-organist at Perth Cathedral in Western Australia. 

After earning a research degree exploring the English pre-Reformation organ, he received numerous awards and scholarships to study for the solo post-graduate degree at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Stuttgart (with Jon Laukvik and Ludger Lohmann), from which he launched a concert organist career. 

With performances in 2012, he became the eighth person in the world to play Francis Pott‘s monumental organ symphony Christus, frequently called the Everest of the organ repertory.

Christian Wilson serves as Director of Music at Brasenose College in Oxford and Lecturer in Music at Christ Church, as Assistant Master of Music in the Chapels Royal, HM Tower of London. He frequently performs on BBC radio and television while maintaining a hectic schedule as a pianist and musicologist.
