In the early 1990s, Da Brat kickstarted her career in the bustling streets of Chicago. Her big break came after clinching victory in a rap contest sponsored by Yo! MTV Raps, which brought her into the orbit of Kris Kross. This fortuitous meeting introduced her to Jermaine Dupri, the mastermind behind Kris Kross, and led to her signing with his So So Def label.

In 1994, Da Brat unleashed her debut album, Funkdafied, upon the world, garnering both critical acclaim and commercial success with over a million copies sold. Making it official on March 26, 2020, Da Brat confirmed that she is currently in a committed relationship with Jesseca Dupart, a successful entrepreneur in the hair product industry. Taking their love to the next level, Da Brat and Dupart tied the knot in Georgia on February 22, 2022.

After revealing in February 2023 that she and Jesseca Harris-Dupart were expanding their family, Da Brat shared the news of her first pregnancy. Before this, she underwent surgery to eliminate fibroids and polyps in preparation for an embryo transfer procedure.
