After she graduated from the university, Saweetie shifted her focus full-time to her musical career.

She also mentioned on social media that Quavo had been unfaithful, writing, “Presents don’t band-aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.” In late March 2021, video footage surfaced showing the pair in a physical altercation that allegedly happened in 2020.

The song was uploaded to her SoundCloud in the summer of 2017 and attracted the attention of Max Gousse, a renowned producer and A&R executive who later became her manager. The film went viral online, amassing 100 million views by June 2020 on YouTube.

In the same month, Saweetie uploaded a freestyle rap titled High Maintenance alongside a video of herself rhyming a verse to the song while relaxing in her kitchen. Likewise, it became popular on Instagram and Twitter. In October 2017, she released a music video for Focus, which sampled Gilligan by DRAM.
