David Kaufman was born on July 23, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up there. His father is Jewish and his mother is Catholic.
Kaufman developed an interest in acting during childhood after his kindergarten teacher gave him the role of Santa Claus in a school Christmas production.
