Early Life & Education

DJ Roja, a renowned disc jockey, was born on September 29, 1989, in the vibrant city of Kampala, Uganda. Hailing from a family with the honorific title of Hajji, he was lovingly raised by his parents, Nsubuga Ganga and Agnes Nankabirwa. 

As he journeyed through his childhood, DJ Roja had the company of his sister, Christine Nampeera. A nomadic lifestyle marked their upbringing as they resided in various neighborhoods within Kampala, such as Ntinda, Kireka, Kiwatule, and Kamokya.

DJ Roja has a diverse educational background, having attended multiple schools, such as the City High School and Kanjuki Secondary School. Following his high school education, he enrolled in Kyambogo University‘s Mbale branch, pursuing a mechanical engineering diploma specializing in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Career

DJ Roja‘s career took an unexpected turn when he left behind his engineering aspirations, realizing their incompatibility with his professional ambitions during an internship at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala.

His DJ journey commenced when he crossed paths with DJ Pollo, becoming DJ Pollo‘s apprentice and often lugging around heavy sound equipment.

Later, DJ Mercy paved the way for DJ Roja to secure a bar gig, a stepping stone that led him to join the esteemed Beats for Life in Bugolobi. Prior to that, Roja cut his DJing teeth under DJ Crim at Blue Heva before finding his way to Wave Lounge.

Wave Lounge marked a turning point in DJ Roja‘s career, initially as an emerging DJ under the guidance of the late DJ Momo. Here, he met MC Kats, who introduced him to Ibrah Kadanke, opening the door to DJing at various school events.

DJ Roja‘s journey took a significant twist when he serendipitously encountered Slick Stuart in late 2012, a renowned DJ celebrated for his extended mixes.

In 2014, after discovering their shared musical interests, DJ Roja and Slick Stuart considered joining forces. They initially adopted a unique format, alternating between sets of five songs each.

An inspiring moment occurred at Badi studios, where they heard A Pass‘ Mumpulila. Interestingly, they refrained from producing a music video for this track, with A Pass Bagonza retaining full copyright ownership.

Personal Life

The 34-year-old DJ Roja and his girlfriend, Daniella, have been in a committed relationship for a significant period. However, despite their strong bond, they have not been blessed with children. 

In 2019, a distressing incident occurred when DJ Roja allegedly assaulted Daniella and fled. Rumors circulated that his colleague at work helped him evade the authorities as the police searched for him in every possible location.
