Betta Chimaobim Edu (born October 27, 1986) is a well-rounded Nigerian politician skilled in public health, medicine, and politics. Although she primarily works as a public health specialist, she has also significantly contributed to the government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) party. 

Betta Edu was suspended as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation after she allegedly diverted more than 585 million naira of public money into a personal bank account. She served as the national women leader of the All Progressive Congress. She previously held the position of Cross River State Commissioner for Health.

Born on October 27, 1986, in Lagos, Nigeria, Betta Edu is a Nigerian politician whose upbringing was shaped by the guidance of her parents. Her father, Emmanuel Eke, is an entrepreneur, while her mother’s name is Mrs. Eke. 

Coming from a Christian family in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, Betta Edu is one of five siblings and has a twin brother. Growing up in Calabar, she later pursued her education at the prestigious University of Calabar.

Career

Betta Edu embarked on her political journey in 2015, assuming the role of the youngest Special Adviser on Community and Primary Healthcare to the Governor of Cross River State. Her dedication and competence earned her the position of Chair of the Cross River State COVID-19 Task Force in 2020.

In this crucial role, Betta played a pivotal part in effectively managing the challenges posed by the pandemic within the state.
