Early Life

Bonginkosi Madikizela, a prominent South African politician, was born in the scenic town of Port Shepstone in the Natal province on March 15, 1975. Notably, his aunt was the legendary anti-apartheid activist Winnie MandelaNelson Mandela‘s wife. 

Tragedy struck in 1990 when his brother was tragically murdered, leading Bonginkosi to relocate to Welbedacht in Chatsworth. During this period, he collaborated with a community leader to establish the Welbedacht Development Forum to aid the area’s impoverished residents.

Bonginkosi Madikizela‘s journey toward a career in human resource management began with his brother’s assistance enrolling him at a computer school. He furthered his education at the University of South Africa and worked as a car guard at a theme park. Upon completing a computer training course upon his return to Chatsworth, Madikizela became involved with the Chatsworth Child Welfare Organization. In 2002, he returned to Cape Town, where he actively immersed himself in politics.

Education

In 1991, Bonginkosi Madikizela reached a pivotal moment when he discontinued his education at Asoka Secondary School and entered the workforce at a shoe factory in Croftdene. It wasn’t until 1998 that he moved significantly to Cape Town, where he took residence with his brother. 

This shift provided him with vital support and encouragement to resume his education. Guided by his brother, Madikizela enrolled in a computer school, marking the commencement of his journey into human resource management.

Subsequently, he pursued formal education in this field at the esteemed University of South Africa (UNISA). Despite early obstacles in his educational journey, Bonginkosi Madikizela‘s determination and hard work ultimately paid off, allowing him to achieve his goals with the unwavering support of his family and his own perseverance.

Career

In 2005, Bonginkosi Madikizela gained prominence for his leadership prowess when he mobilized dissatisfied ANC members in Khayelitsha’s Makhaza region. These members had supported former Western Cape Premier and ANC Provincial Chairman Ebrahim Rasool in a leadership dispute against Mcebisi SkwatshaMadikizela‘s ability to unite and guide people toward a shared objective set him apart, propelling him into the spotlight and earning him respect from peers and followers.

After Skwatsha‘s triumph in the leadership election, Madikizela and some of Rasool’s supporters in Khayelitsha claimed they were sidelined within the party. 

Additionally, they were excluded from consideration as potential ANC candidates for the upcoming local government elections in 2006. Feeling marginalized, Bonginkosi Madikizela and several other ANC members, including party councillors, declared their intention to run as independent candidates. As a consequence of this decision, they were subsequently expelled from the party in early 2006.
