Career

Rochas Okorocha‘s political career is one that has seen its fair share of twists and turns. The Nigerian politician threw his hat in the ring for the PDP primary for the governorship of Imo State in 1999 but lost to Achike Udenwa. Despite this setback, he remained undaunted and continued to serve in various capacities, such as the Federal Character Commission and the National Constitutional Conference.

In 2003, Rochas Okorocha sought the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) presidential nomination but was unsuccessful, leading him to return to the PDP. It wasn’t long before he caught the attention of President Olusegun Obasanjo, who appointed him as Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs.

Determined to carve his own path, Rochas Okorocha founded the Action Alliance (AA) party in 2005, intending to run for president under the AA in the 2007 elections. However, he re-joined the PDP and announced his interest in becoming the party’s National Chairman in September 2007.

In 2011, Rochas Okorocha left the PDP to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and contested in the national elections as a candidate for Imo State Governor. However, his relationship with the APGA soured in December 2010 when he was suspended for engaging in anti-party activities. Reports surfaced that he had mobilized a gang of thugs to raid the APGA offices in Imo State and physically assault key party personnel.
