In 2007, at just 14, he secured an FIA exemption to compete in Formula BMW Asia and won the championship, becoming the youngest winner in the series’ history. A day later, Petronas invited him to join its talent development programme.
At 15, he moved to Europe, spending nine years competing in British Formula 3, where he was runner-up in 2012 and became the first Asian to achieve that feat, and Formula Renault 3.5, where he won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2015.

He transitioned to endurance and GT racing, competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Jackie Chan DC Racing, including a fourth-place LMP2 class finish at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, and earning a WEC victory.
He finished second in the 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and has since raced in GT World Challenge Asia and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia. In March 2025, he won the 12 Hours of Sepang with 33R Harmony Racing in a Ferrari 296 GT3, completing 328 laps after a late-race charge from third to first.
Beyond racing, he founded Persona Energy Sdn Bhd in 2018 to run the Technology Transfer Apprenticeship Programme, which has placed 95 Malaysian engineers and mechanics into international motorsport roles.
