Jidenna Theodore Mobisson (born May 4, 1985), popularly addressed as Jidenna, is an adored American rapper and singer. 

He is signed to Wondaland Records, where he released his debut EP, Long Live the Chief, in February 2016. His debut studio album, The Chief, was released on February 17, 2017.

Jidenna was born in Wisconsin on May 4, 1985, to Nigerian parents. He lived briefly in Nigeria around the age of six before relocating to the United States.

Early Life & Education

Jidenna Theodore Mobisson was conceived on May 4, 1985, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, United States. He was born to Tama Mobisson, an accountant mother, and Oliver Mobisson, a Nigerian scientist, entrepreneur, and activist of Igbo origin father. 

He spent a portion of his childhood in Nigeria, during the period his father was a computer science professor at Enugu State University.

Jidenna is the youngest in a family of 4. He has an older brother and two older sisters. His elder brother named, Geof Mobisso, is an alumnus of Harvard University. While Nneka Mobisson-Etuk, one of his elder sisters, is the Executive Director of African Operations at the Institute for Health Care Investment.

In 2003, Jidenna graduated from Milton Academy, where he released his first album with Black Spadez as his final project. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity from Stanford University in 2008, he moved between Los Angeles, Oakland, Brooklyn, and Atlanta to further his music career while working as a full-time teacher. 

Jidenna eventually signed a record deal with recording artist Janelle Monáe‘s Wondaland Records.

The following project he started recording was The Eephus, a five-song collection from the label’s debut extended play (EP). The first song produced by Jidenna and Roman GianArthur, Classic Man, was released in February 2015. After making its Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart debut at position 49, the song gained a lot of airplay across the globe.

The second single from the EP, Yoga, by Janelle Monáe and Jidenna, was made available on March 31, 2015. At the 58th Grammy Awards, his song Classic Man was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Jidenna and Janelle Monáe performed the song at the BET Awards in June of the same year. Jidenna was also recognized as the best new artist at the November 2015 Soul Train Music Awards.
