Lloyd Chikezie Achonye (born 6 February 1996) is a talented Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter, professionally known as LYD.

He popped into the music scene professionally in 2015 when he had his demo recorded.

To seal his name in the music scene, he won the awards consecutively for Best Rapper In Abia State Polytechnic; this endorsed 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Early Life

LYD was given the birth name Lloyd Chikezie Achonye which he smartly carved out his nickname from.

He was born on the 6th of February, 1996 in Aba, a city in Abia State situated in Nigeria.

LYD originally hails from the southeastern part of Nigeria which is Imo State.

He grew up in Abia and Imo States, which helps him understand both cultures.

Career

He went ahead to win one of the controversial Best Rap Competition in Aba, Abia State, which kicked him to be praised as the best emcee coming out of the Southeastern part of Nigeria.

In 2016, Wetin U Get, a renowned rap talent show in Aba, surrendered to the reigning rap artist LYD as he emerged as one of the top finalists in the competition.

While he was still very much celebrated in those years, LYD never had a released song, but we can trace that he had several unreleased songs which he performed in shows, garnering a massive fan base across Abia State.

In 2021, LYD released his first-ever official single, Okocha. The single was termed a tune off his mixtape, which was titled 602 Vol. 1.

602 Mixtape was made up of nine tracks and had notable features and covers. It was released in the same 2021.

The 602 Mixtape gave birth to several hits, including 602 (intro), Okocha, End SARS (Omah Lay‘s Bad influence cover), and a vast of others.

To even marked his name more on the lips of music lovers, LYD collaborated with Stimulus and Paulee The Wordsmith to give us s song, which resulted in the No Title Cypher (NTC).

LYD took his fans by surprise with the world-famous collaboration with Headies Awards-winning rapper, Terry Tha Rapman. The song was titled PruhBlem, which is still very much in rotation across several radio stations nationwide.

LYD also stands as a proud member of the musical group known as 3Sixteen.
