Early Life

Ycee was born on the 29th Of January 1993 in the city of Lagos. His full name is Oludemilade Martin Alejo. Due to his parents’ Yoruba heritage, he hails from southwest Nigeria. He spent his formative years living in his parents’ house in Festac Town.

As a teenager, Ycee was exposed to different music genres as he listened to the radio or watched TV. He picked up a special interest in rap music, and after motivating himself, he decided to try his hands on the genre.

Staying in the comfort of his bedroom, Ycee penned down dozens of rap songs, which he performed in the presence of his family members and close friends.

Becoming more confident with his craft, he started freestyling during lunch breaks to the awe of his secondary school classmates. His friends advised him to take his talent to the four walls of a studio to record songs.

Ycee heeded their advice and often visited a recording studio close to his parents’ voice. During this period, he was able to record a couple of mixtapes, which people in his community grew to love.

Thus, he received invitations to perform at shows and small concerts in Lagos City.

Education

For his elementary school education, Ycee attended Dr. Soyemi Memorial Nursery and Primary School.

After six years of study, he obtained his West African School Certificate from Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo.

He studied at the University Of Lagos and graduated with a degree in Marine Biology.

Career

Ycee started music professionally in 2012 and soon signed a record deal with Tinny Entertainment. However, he paused the music for a while to focus on his academics. However, he made his comeback with the hit single, Condo in 2015. The song positioned him as a rapper to watch out for.

That same year he released the popular song, Jagaban. For the remix of the song, he collaborated with Olamide.

Another hit song by Ycee in 2015 is Omo Alhaji. During the song’s remix in 2016, he invited popular South African artist, DJ Maphorisa to lend his vocals to the single.

In 2019, Ycee left Tinny Entertainment to set up an independent music label, ANBT, which is an acronym for Ain’t Nobody Badder Than.

He dropped his debut EP, First Wave, in 2017. The EP is an eight-track project. He collaborated with his label mate, Bella Alubo, on the EP, Late Night Vibrations in 2018.

After years of waiting, Ycee‘s fans finally experienced the joy of listening to his debut album titled Ycee Vs Zaheer. The project was released on the 8th Of November 2019.
