David Inyene-Obong Nugboyon Oluwaseun ‘Dario’ Hundeyin (born May 6, 1990) is a Nigerian investigative journalist, researcher, creative writer, and activist. He is known professionally as David Hundeyin.

He is the Founder and editor-in-chief of West Africa Weekly, a media publication focused on investigative journalism. 

In 2022, David Hundeyin published investigative articles on tech unicorn, Flutterwave, and Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of Nigeria’s ruling political party APC.

Early Life

David Hundeyin was born into the illustrious Hundeyin family on the 6th of May, 1990. He was birthed into the household of Mr. David Fakunle Hundeyin

His father, David Fakunle Hundeyin, is from Badagry, Lagos State, while his mother is from Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. He was born in Akwa Ibom in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. 

David Hundeyin has both Yoruba and Ibibio ancestry. His mum is an Ibibio woman, while his father is from the Egun sub-ethnic group. He spent his formative years residing in Victoria Island, Lagos, before migrating to the United Kingdom for academic purposes.

It’s worth noting that Benjamin Hundeyin, the Nigerian police superintendent, who is the incumbent Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, is not a brother of David Hundeyin.


David Hundeyin is an Alumnus of Atlantic Hall School in Lagos, attending the institution from 2001 to 2003. After that, he studied at Grange School and left the institution in 2005. He completed his high school at Oxbridge Tutorial College, graduating in 2007.

After graduating high school, David Hundeyin migrated to the United Kingdom for his university education. He bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing and Media, Culture & Society from the University Of Hull. He graduated from the institution in 2011.


David Hundeyin‘s career began in the Public Relations and Communication Industry. He started as an Intern with BHM Group Nigeria in 2014. Months later, he was promoted to Account Executive and held the position from October 2014 till May 2015. He was promoted to Head Of Content in May 2015 and held the position till he left the company in May 2016.

David Hundeyin contributed to CCN Markets from May 2018 to September 2019. He is the former Head Producer of TheSheet TV, an online television platform that showcases youth-focused content. He worked with digital TV from August 2018 till August 2019. He was the Television Writer for The Other News show produced by Channels Television. 

He is the Co-Founder of Nova Animation and Copywriting Studio. He helped co-run the media outfit from July 2016 till September 2018.

David Hundeyin is an award-winning journalist, writer, and researcher. His marketing and business consulting background came in handy when he worked with different corporate organizations over the years. His work has appeared on platforms such as The New Yorker Magazine, The Africa Report, Business Day, CNN, Netflix, and Channels TV. 

He is the Editor-in-Chief of West Africa Weekly, a media publication he founded in July 2021. Since 2019, he has been working as a Columnist with Business Day. 

David Hundeyin was a Visiting Fellow with the University Of Cambridge from January 2023 to March 2023. He was a distinguished James Currey Fellow at the institution. He worked as the West Africa Correspondent for The Africa Report from November 2019 till August 2021. He is a former staff of NewsWire Nigeria, working part-time with the publication from August 2019 till June 2021. He was a Columnist for the Vanguard Newspapers from February 2020 till May 2021. 

David Hundeyin worked part-time as a Reporter for BeInCrypto from December 2018 till January 2021. He was a Contributor to CNN from August 2019 to March 2020. He held the position of Radio Host at African Business Radio for four months (September 2019 – December 2019). At African Business Radio, he presented the Red Tape Africa show. 

David Hundeyin is a member of the international collaborative journalism network Forbidden Stories. He is a recipient of the 2019 US International Visitors Leadership Program.

He won the People Journalism Award For Africa in 2020.

David Hundeyin got married at 25, but he is now divorced. He met his ex-wife during his National Youth Service Corps, and the duo married shortly after. Their union lasted for three years before it hit the rocks. 

David Hundeyin‘s father passed away in 2017. He is an Atheist. He doesn’t practice any religion. He is currently in self-exile, fleeing the country in fear of the Nigerian government’s clampdown on key personalities who had participated in the EndSARS protests. He is living under Asylum Protection in an undisclosed country.
