Early Life

Bimbo Akintola was born on the 5th of May 1970 in a public-run hospital in Oyo State. She was birthed in Ibadan into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Akintola. 

She is a Nigerian who has both Yoruba and Edo ancestry. She is an Oyo woman from her father’s side and an Edo woman from her mother’s side. She is from a family of six and is the third child of the Akintola household. 

From an early age, Bimbo Akintola had taken an interest in acting. She starred in school plays and end-of-year dramatic presentations as a primary and secondary school student. Her love for acting motivated her to study Theatre Arts at the university. She spent her formative years residing in Oyo and Lagos states. 

Education

Bimbo Akintola spent her early years residing in Maryland, Lagos. She was educated at Maryland Convent Private School for her elementary education. 

Afterwards, she studied at Command Day School for her work secondary education. She graduated with good grades in her SSCE and proceeded to the University Of Ibadan for her higher education. 

She got a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from the University Of Ibadan. 

Career

While still an undergraduate at the University Of Ibadan, Bimbo Akintola began working as an actress. She was cast in many theatre productions in the Southwest region of Nigeria. Besides acting, she was also a good singer. As a student, she performed with Jaiye Aboderin at a club called Divine on Allen Avenue, Lagos.

After graduating from high school, Bimbo Akintola entered the Nollywood industry and began to audition for film roles. She made her acting debut in the 1995 film Owo Blow alongside Femi Adebayo. In 1997, she was cast in Out Of Bounds, which also starred Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD). 

In the years that followed, Bimbo Akintola appeared in many Nollywood blockbusters. Notable mentions include Diamond Ring (1998), The Gardner (1998), Dangerous Twins (2004), Beyond The Verdict (2007), Smoke and Mirrors (2008), Hoodrush (2012), and Ayitale (2013), amongst others. 

In 2022, Bimbo Akintola was cast to play the role of Mabel Wilmer-Willoughby in the Netflix Original Drama Series – Far From Home. The drama series was released in December 2022. She also appeared as a cast in the web series AfroCity.
