Early Life & Education

Sidney Onoriode Esiri, popularly known as DR SID, was born on May 1, 1980, in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria. His father was the esteemed Nigerian actor Justus Esiri, while his mother, Omiete Esiri, was a well-known businesswoman. He hails from Urhobo in Delta State in the southern part of Nigeria. He has a brother named Andrew Esiri.

DR SID received his West Africa Senior School Certificate from the Nigerian Airforce Secondary School in Ikeja before proceeding to the University of Ibadan, where he studied dental surgery and eventually became a qualified dentist.

During his college days, DR SID showcased his artistic abilities by participating in various concerts, dance competitions, and stage productions, and his impressive performances earned him numerous accolades and awards.

Since then, DR SID has established himself as a prominent singer and songwriter in the Nigerian music industry, gaining fame for his popular songs like Booty Call and Close to You.

Career

In 1999, DR SID kickstarted his career as a choreographer for Tribesmen and worked with many notable artists, including 2Shotz, Sasha P, Del P, Timi Dakolo, Freestyle, eLDee, and KB, to create the chart-topping track OYA, as a part of the Da Tribe. It was while pursuing his master’s degree in the UK that he met JJC Skillz, 419 Squad, R70, Kas, Felix Duke, and D’banj, who would become lifelong friends and collaborators.

After completing his studies, DR SID returned to Nigeria, where he worked at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH before enrolling in the National Youth Service Corps in Yola, Adamawa State. Though he worked in many dental clinics, he never quit his passion for music. In 2007, he took a bold step and left his dental practice to focus on his music career, signing with Don Jazzy‘s Mo Hit Records, one of the most prominent record labels in the country.

As a member of Mo Hits Allstars, DR SID was part of the team that released seven of the fifteen tracks on the Curriculum Vitae (CV) album, which included the hit songs Booty Call and Close to You. He performed at several of the most significant events in the country between 2006 and 2008, including the Thisday Music Festival and Star Mega Jam.

In 2010, DR SID released his debut studio album, Turning Point, under Mo Hits Records and Don Jazzy. It included the popular tracks Something About You and Pop Something and was a huge success, with Over The Moon dominating most Nigerian music charts then.

After Mo Hits Records disbanded, DR SID moved in with Don Jazzy, who launched a new record label, Mavin Records, and became a part of it. In 2013, he released his second album, Siduction, under Mavin Records, which included the hit songs Surulere, Baby Tornado with Alexandra Burke, Oyari with Tiwa Savage, and Last Bus Stop.
