His parents, Laurence Thomaz and Peachie Wimbush were both military members, and he spent his early years moving from place to place. His sister is named Dorien Lala Thomaz. In 2004, Benjy Grinberg, the president of Rostrum Records, was introduced to the rapper Wiz Khalifa through a mixtape featuring new Pittsburgh artists. After meeting him for the first time, Benjy Grinberg was immediately impressed and decided to sign him to the label. Over the next seven years, he provided guidance and support to help Wiz Khalifa develop his skills as an artist. Despite being young and relatively unknown then, he saw potential in Wiz Khalifa and believed he could become a successful artist with the proper support.
