Cameron Jibril Thomaz, better known by his stage name Wiz Khalifa, was born on September 8, 1987, in Minot, North Dakota. His parents, Laurence Thomaz and Peachie Wimbush were both military members, and he spent his early years moving from place to place. His sister is named Dorien Lala Thomaz. He lived in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan before settling in Pittsburgh with his mother in 1996. His parents got separated when he was just three years old. Because of his parent military status, he moved from one location to another.

In 2004, Benjy Grinberg, the president of Rostrum Records, was introduced to the rapper Wiz Khalifa through a mixtape featuring new Pittsburgh artists. After meeting him for the first time, Benjy Grinberg was immediately impressed and decided to sign him to the label. Over the next seven years, he provided guidance and support to help Wiz Khalifa develop his skills as an artist. Despite being young and relatively unknown then, he saw potential in Wiz Khalifa and believed he could become a successful artist with the proper support.

“As an aficionado of burgeoning talent, I was elated to discover Wiz Khalifa in 2004 through a mixtape featuring Pittsburgh’s newest crop of artists.
