Luka Modrić is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for La Liga club Real Madrid and captains the Croatia national team. 

He plays mainly as a central midfielder, but can also play as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder.

 He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of the generation and the greatest Croatian footballer of all time.

Early Life And Education

Modrić was born on September 9, 1985 in Zadar, Croatia. He is the son of Radojka and Stipe Modrić. He grew up throughout the war, His family was forced to leave their home hamlet in 1991 when the fighting became more violent. Modrić was primarily raised in the stone home of his paternal grandpa, after whom he was named. 

Although he may have had siblings, the conflict leaves us with less information about his family. Owing to his secrecy not much is known about his educational history; however, he attended Budinić Elementary School. From an early age, he probably concentrated on striking a balance between his love of football and his schooling.


Luka Modrić has carved out a legendary career, establishing himself as one of the greatest midfielders ever and arguably the best Croatian footballer ever. Early Career and Growth (2003–2012) Luka Modrić’ started his early Career in 2003 at Dinamo Zagreb and went on loan to Zrinjski Mostar and Inter Zaprešić.

He demonstrated his skills by winning trophies with Dinamo Zagreb. Dinamo Zagreb signed the sixteen-year-old Croatian, but H. Š. K. Zrinjski Mostar ended up borrowing him. He made his professional debut on August 3, 2003, playing for this Bosnian team against Borac Banja Luka; Monster won 1-0. After spending a season, Luka was named the Bosnian League’s best player. 

Modrić paid £30 million to move to Real Madrid. He was chosen for that season’s team of the season and went on to win the 2013–14 Champions League in his second season. Modrić played a crucial role in the team’s three straight Champions League titles from 2015–16 to 2017–18 after Zinedine Zidane took over Madrid in 2016. 

He was selected for the team of the season each time. He has won 24 major trophies throughout his time at Real Madrid, which includes three La Liga wins, two Copa del Rey titles, and five UEFA Champions League crowns. 

Modrić has received multiple individual honours, such as the Ballon d’Or in 2018, which he won—becoming the first player not to be named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo—and the Best FIFA Men’s in 2007, and the IFFHS World’s Best Playmaker in 2018. 

In addition, he has been named to the UEFA Team of the Year three times and the FIFPRO World 11 six times. He received the Golden Foot Award in 2019 for his personality and professional achievements.

In a friendly encounter against Italy in March 2006, Modrić scored his first goal for Croatia against Argentina, marking his debut in the international arena. Participating in every major event Croatia has qualified for, from UEFA Euro 2008 to 2020 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup to 2022, Modrić has been the cornerstone of Croatia’s “second Golden Generation”.

 He was chosen for the Team of the Tournament at Euro 2008. Modrić won the Golden Ball while leading Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final. He won the Bronze Ball while leading the squad to a third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup. He went on to become the most-capped player in the history of the nation in March 2021.
