Hajia Nana Shettima, the second lady, was born in Kano State on July 2, 1975. Her father, Alhaji Usman Alkali, is a Kanuri from Borno State, and her mother’s name is Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albashir. She is the third child of her father. 

Nana Shettima began her education early, attending an Islamiyya school in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. She then participated in Lamisula 1 Primary School in Maiduguri, where she obtained her first leaving certificate in 1988. 

After primary school, Nana Shettima attended the Government Girl’s College, Maiduguri, where she completed her secondary education in 1993. She then studied English Language and Literature at the University of Maiduguri, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in 2006.
