Early Life

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, currently serving as the Governor of Ondo State, was born on January 12, 1965, in the town of Obe-Nla, located in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. 

His parents, Titus Akande and Rosanah Moyebi Aiyedatiwa, played a significant role in his upbringing. Growing up, Lucky Aiyedatiwa had the joy of having four siblings as part of his family.

Education

Lucky Aiyedatiwa completed his primary education at Saint Peter’s UNA (now FAC) Primary School in Ilaje LGA of Ondo State from 1970 to 1976. He then attended Ikosi High School in Ketu, Lagos, for his secondary education, graduating in 1982. 

In 1986, Lucky graduated from Lagos State College of Education (now Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education) in Ijanikin, Lagos, with a Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) in Economics and Government. Later, in 2001, he attended the University of Ibadan to earn an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration.

Career

Lucky Aiyedatiwa initiated his public service journey in 2004, becoming the National Public Relations Officer for the Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON). Over the years, he held various leadership positions, including serving as the Chairman of ABCON’s South-West Zone from 2010 to 2011. Subsequently, Aiyedatiwa ventured into the business world, taking on the Managing Director/CEO role of the Blue Wall Group of Companies.

In 2011, Aiyedatiwa transitioned into politics by joining the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which later merged into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Actively engaging with the party, he represented the APC as a delegate at the national convention in 2014. His political journey unfolded when he became the party’s candidate for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency during the 2015 general elections.

Recognizing his contributions, Lucky Aiyedatiwa was appointed as the Federal Commissioner, representing Ondo State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission in 2018, a role he diligently fulfilled until 2019. In 2021, he achieved a significant milestone by being elected as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, serving alongside Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

On December 28, 2023, a historic moment unfolded in Ondo State as Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who had previously served as the Acting Governor, officially assumed the position of Governor. The solemn swearing-in ceremony took place at the Cocoa Conference Hall within the Governor’s office premises in Akure, the state capital. Presided over by Justice Olusegun Odusola, the esteemed Chief Judge of Ondo State, the ceremony saw Governor Aiyedatiwa taking the oath of office at 5:18 pm.
