Francis Arthur Nzeribe (born November 2, 1938) was a renowned Nigerian politician who served as the Senator for the Orlu Senatorial constituency in Imo State at two different times. 

In the first term, he held office from October 1983 to December 1983, while in the second term, he served from May 1999 to May 2007 on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) slate. Throughout his political career, Arthur Nzeribe consistently represented his constituency and contributed to the political landscape of Nigeria.

Early Life

Arthur Nzeribe, a Nigerian politician, was born on November 2, 1938, in Orlu, Imo State. Tragically, he lost his mother while he was still a primary school student, leaving his father, who was studying law in Great Britain, as his only surviving parent. 

In this challenging situation, Arthur Nzeribe‘s care was taken over by Catholic priests dedicated to ensuring that he received an education. As a result of their support and guidance, he had the opportunity to attend both Bishop Shanahan College in Orlu and Holy Ghost College in Owerri.

Arthur Nzeribe, a prominent Nigerian politician, had his academic pursuits take shape at Bishop Shanahan College in Orlu and Holy Ghost College in Owerri. His journey led him to Lagos in 1957, where he secured a position as an engineering cadet with Nigeria’s Port Authority. 

The following year, Nzeribe was granted a scholarship by the NPA to pursue marine engineering studies. He subsequently enrolled at Portsmouth College of Technology and later furthered his education at Chesterfield College of Technology in England.

Career

In London, Arthur Nzeribe established the Fanz Organization as a multi-faceted enterprise involved in various sectors such as heavy construction, arms trading, oil brokerage, publishing, and property investment. This diversified company experienced remarkable success, reaching an impressive annual trading turnover of £70 million by 1979. 

Moreover, Nzeribe expanded his business ventures in Nigeria by founding Sentinel Assurance and developing the Heaven of Peace estate in Oguta. Through these endeavors, Nzeribe demonstrated his entrepreneurial understanding and ability to establish thriving enterprises internationally and domestically.

Arthur Nzeribe‘s political career began in 1983 when he won the election and became the Senator representing the Orlu Senatorial constituency. However, his time in the Senate was cut short due to a military coup in December of the same year. As a result of the coup, Nzeribe was briefly detained, but he was soon released from custody.

In 1999, Arthur Nzeribe was again elected to serve in the Senate, representing the PDP (People’s Democratic Party).
